Weather Update: It’s raining. I thought y’all should know.
We here at Empty Apartment love playing indie games. So, I thought it was time for me to review one and, with that, onto McPixel! It’s a game made by Sos; he has an actual name, I just don't know it. I have another game by him called Super Office Stress; it’s pretty good fun, but that’s not what we're here for.
McPixel is a game where you have to stop things from exploding and killing everything. I’m pretty bad at it, mainly because I panic so much and click aimlessly. The controls are simple: just click on things.
I have to say, I don't have many, if any, problems with this game; but neither is there anything I particularly enjoyed about it. That’s why this is quite hard to write, because there’s nothing I can highlight. The soundtrack does get annoying really quickly, but I fixed that by playing my music - that obviously didn't fit the game - which made it more enjoyable.
I guess I better explain that screenshot. I have 19 seconds to defuse the explosive hot dog. Yes, you did see that correctly. It is an explosive hot dog. Which always reminds me of this:
So, yeah, you have to stop stuff blowing up. Which is hard because the game gives you no help, whatsoever, so good luck trying to unlock all the stuff you get for achieving 100% on each chapter - there are 5 of them - an unending mode and various other modes that you can play. To be honest, I played some of them but they weren’t enough to make me enjoy the game more.
If I were to try and compare this to any game out there at the moment, I think it’d be like comparing a melon to a 5.56mm round; they’re so different that they can’t really be compared. See:
So, what do I think overall? I think that, although it has some fun in the first playthrough, it doesn't have much of a life after that; even with all the extra modes tacked onto the game. I’d suggest happily going to buy it for about $2 or $3, but not at the current price of $10. Though, Sos has to eat somehow -- hence the high price point.
